mamboMambo is an open source Content Management System. It is used to create web sites through the use of a simple interface. There are also management options in order to maintain the web site itself. One of the main attractions of this brand is the ease of use when compared to others CMS brands.
A fork was created out of Mambo, which is now known as Joomla. As with most other CMS types, it uses the PHP programming language as well as MySQL Database system. The server requirements for Mambo are PHP v4.3, MySQL v4.0, and Apache v1.3.19 or Windows IIS. Despite its simplicity, it also contains a host of advanced features. One example of this is page caching. Page caching helps a web site load faster by duplicating original values of a set of data. It works similarly to that of a temporary storage area. This enables faster and easier access of data. The Application Programming Interface is solid, so supporting requests made by computer programs can be handled adequately. Certain features are automated, such as web indexing with regards to static pages. Other features include support for RSS feeds, blogs, forums, polls, calendars, and web searching. Another helpful feature is language internationalization, which helps out users from different locations. Something that contributes to the ease and simplicity of Mambo is the amount of documentation available. Though learning Mambo can take a little time, it usually becomes much easier after that. Learning through the use of the documentation makes it easier to do so. There is a vast assortment of tutorials that are widely available throughout the web. The user interface also helps out in that aspect. There is an option to use a WYSIWYG editor to give users the option of using a simpler user interface. This is helpful because using some of the templates requires some PHP programming skills. An example of this is editing the page layout. Using the provided administrator interface makes this task much simpler. The Mambo community is quite active. There are a number of modules that can be downloaded to include a particular functionality to a web site. A good example is the ability to add search engines with configurable options. Mambo is best suited for simple web sites. The ease of use afforded by the system allows for straightforward development of the web site itself. For more advanced web sites, users are advised to check out the different modules that provide additional functionality.
